Shipfitter

About this role

Sparta Networking seeks skilled Shipfitters to support fabrication and assembly of structural components for naval vessels in Newport News, VA. The role involves reading blueprints, positioning structural steel plates, and preparing materials for welding and final assembly.

What you will do

• Read and interpret shipbuilding blueprints and structural drawings
• Layout, position, and align steel plates and structural components
• Measure and mark materials for cutting and fitting
• Fit bulkheads, decks, and hull components
• Perform tack welding to hold structures prior to welding
• Operate hand tools, grinders, torches, and alignment equipment
• Maintain structural tolerances and quality standards
• Follow shipyard safety procedures

What you need

• 1+ years of shipfitting or structural fabrication experience
• Ability to read complex blueprints
• Experience working with heavy steel fabrication
